KyFromAbove Program

The data accessed through abovepy is collected and published by the KyFromAbove program, a statewide initiative to acquire high-resolution aerial imagery and LiDAR elevation data for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Data Providers

KyFromAbove data is produced through partnerships between state, federal, and local agencies. Key contributors include:

  • USGS / 3DEP -- federal partnership for LiDAR acquisition
  • FEMA -- floodplain mapping and elevation data
  • Kentucky Transportation Cabinet -- infrastructure and corridor data
  • Local governments -- cost-share partners for aerial acquisition

Data Licensing

KyFromAbove data is public government data made available for unrestricted use. As products of Kentucky state government, these datasets are in the public domain and carry no copyright restrictions.
